The first time I set out to find a therapist, I was completely overwhelmed when my search on Psychology Today revealed a long list of names, titles, and degrees. My experience as a recently graduated psychologist left me familiar with the various acronyms, but I had no idea what they meant when it came to choosing someone to help me fix my life. What’s the difference between, say, a Ph.D. and an L.C.S.W. in a therapy setting? Are therapy and counseling the same thing? How do you pick? Does it matter?
